The Aomori Fair runs from 22 to 30 November 2025 at SAKE+ Orchard Somerset and Fish Mart Sakuraya (Parkway Parade), each offering a special showcase of premium produce, seafood, and artisanal ingredients from the northern Japanese region of Aomori, particularly Hachinohe, a coastal city famed for its fishing heritage.
Across both locations, visitors can explore a curated selection of premium sake, sweet boiled scallops, smoked mackerel, rich sea urchin, and Aomori’s renowned aged black garlic — along with unique culinary products perfect for cooking, gifting, and discovering new flavours of northern Japan.
Whether you’re a sake lover, a home cook, or an adventurous foodie, this limited-time fair brings Aomori’s coastal flavours right to Singapore.
Aomori Fair Highlights
Aomori’s Prized Seafood
Aomori thrives on its cold currents and pristine waters, producing some of Japan’s best scallops, mackerel, and sea urchin. Expect rich flavours, natural sweetness, and excellent freshness across the seafood lineup.
Aged Black Garlic & Specialty Pantry Items
Aomori is Japan’s top producer of black garlic. Its slow-fermentation process transforms garlic into a sweet, balsamic-like superfood — a versatile ingredient for both home cooking and gourmet experimentation.
Premium Sake
Aomori’s sake is prized for its crisp, clean taste and subtle aromatic notes, thanks to the region’s pure mountain water, cool climate, and high-quality rice. Light and smooth, it pairs beautifully with seafood like scallops, mackerel, and sea urchin, or can be enjoyed on its own for a refined northern-Japan tasting experience.
Product Showcase
From ocean-fresh seafood to Aomori’s signature garlic and warming soup sets, the Aomori Fair has something for everyone. Here’s a quick guide to the must-try items and regional highlights.
Seafood
Aomori’s coastline brings some of Japan’s finest seafood to the Hachinohe Fair. Boiled Scallops ($5.90) are tender and naturally sweet, perfect as a snack or topping for rice. Cold-Smoked Mackerel ($6.90) and its salt & pepper variant offer smoky, umami-rich flavours that pair beautifully with sake. For something indulgent, the Sanriku Branching Sea Urchin ($49.90) delivers creamy, ocean-fresh richness, while Simmered Mackerel ($3.90) is ideal for fish lovers or home chefs seeking premium ingredients.
Garlic Specialties
Aomori is famous for its garlic, and the fair showcases it in versatile forms. Aged Black Garlic ($6.90) offers a sweet, balsamic-like depth, while Black Garlic Paste ($12.90) makes it easy to add umami to any dish. Garlic Persillade ($11.90) and Garlic Bouillon ($11.90) are perfect for adding a garlicky kick to your cooking.
Soups & Meal Sets
For a hearty, comforting option, the Scallop and Vegetable Brown Rice Soup ($12.90) comes in 2 varieties: a 3-variety set with Japanese mountain yam, carrot, and burdock root, and another 3-variety set featuring pumpkin, tomato, and apple. Both are packed with regional vegetables and tender scallops.
Sweets & Dessert Ingredients
Sweet treats from Aomori highlight local fruits and beans. The NURU ANKO Red Bean Paste is made from adzuki beans simmered in syrup and carefully mixed to keep the beans whole, giving it a naturally sweet, rich texture. Perfect on its own, it’s also versatile enough to enjoy with bread, ice cream, in your favourite desserts or however you like. Variations include the smooth ($7.90), rum raisin ($8.90), and chunky butter version ($8.90).
Premium Sake
Aomori and northern Japan are known for sake made with pure mountain water, cool climates, and high-quality rice, resulting in clean, balanced, and aromatic brews. The Aomori Fair features several standout offerings:
Jyoku HANAOMOI Junmai Daiginjo ($69) — Delicate and elegant, this Junmai Daiginjo offers soft floral aromas with a smooth, polished finish. Light yet expressive, it pairs beautifully with fresh seafood like scallops or sea urchin.
Jyoku #MUROKA Tokubetsu Junmai ($49) — Unfiltered and slightly more robust, this sake has a fuller body with subtle umami undertones. Its gentle sweetness and clean finish make it versatile for both sipping and pairing with grilled or smoked dishes.
JYOKU Kanjuku Umeshu ($26) — A rich and fragrant plum liqueur, made from fully ripened ume. Sweet but well-balanced, it’s perfect as a dessert drink or to enjoy alongside lighter sweets and seasonal fruits.
Light, smooth, and approachable, these premium selections highlight the craftsmanship and purity of northern Japan’s sake tradition, perfectly complementing the Hachinohe Fair’s seafood and specialty products.
