Review: TAG Espresso’s New Cafe At Takashimaya, Offering Japanese-Inspired Menu, Specialty Coffee, And More

If you are looking for a cozy spot to get your coffee fix, TAG Espresso is the perfect go-to spot, as they have opened another outlet at Takashimaya Shopping Centre! Unlike its first outlet at Raffles City Shopping Centre, the newest outlet welcomes you for brunch with Japanese-inspired dishes.

The space features a modern botanical-themed interior adorned with plant decorations and a brick bar counter, offering a cozy ambiance.

Specialty Coffee

This café showcases the brand’s full range of premium coffee essentials made with 100% Arabica beans featuring Americano (from $5), Flat White (from $6.00), and Salted Caramel Latte (from $6.50). We also got to try their premium specialty coffee, including the local-inspired Kaya Pandan Latte ($9)Mint Latte ($7)Rose Coconut Latte ($8.50), and Pineapple Black ($7).

We particularly enjoyed the Kaya Pandan Latte, which has a delicate and fragrant taste of kaya pandan, and the Rose Coconut Latte, which boasts a sweet flowery note to the coffee, providing a refreshing taste.

Dirty Yuan Yang

They also have outlet-exclusive drinks like the Dirty Yuan Yang ($15), a creamy Kahlua-based cocktail made with a combination of TAG Espresso’s nutty Midnight Blue Dark Roast Coffee infused with red tea leaves. This drink packs a creamy and caffeinated punch.

Coffee infused with Martell Noblige

Next up, we got to try the Coffee infused with Martell Noblige. It boasted a strong combination of both coffee and Martell Noblige flavors, which can definitely jolt you awake!

Here at TAG Espresso, you can also look forward to a selection of light bites, an all-day brunch, and a dessert menu.

Tako Kaarage

Starting with the light bites, we had a bowl of savoury Tako Kaarage ($13.90). It was seasoned well with shoyu, dashi, and ginger then deep-fried perfectly to golden brown, with a crispy batter on the outside and chewy on the inside.

Shrimp Paste Pork Belly

Next, we tried the flavourful Shrimp Paste Pork Belly ($14.90) topped with tobiko roe. The pork was incredibly tender, and the aroma of the shrimp paste was so fragrant that it left me craving for more.

Avocado Toast

Moving on to the All-Day Brunch menu, we savoured this delectable plate of Avocado Toast ($17.90). Served with a slice of rye bread topped with a generous amount of creamy scrambled eggs, avocado slices, housemade Dukkah spice and pesto, and a side of mesclun salad with smoked salmon. This dish is the perfect option if you are looking for something light.

Fish and Chips

Then, we had the Fish and Chips ($24.90), which featured two large pieces of tender cod coated in crispy batter, a generous portion of fries, alongside a notable Coffee Lime Aioli infused with TAG Espresso’s Midnight Blue coffee. The fish and chips come with loads of juicy and tender meat, and it goes perfectly well with the zesty sauce.

Smoky Fried Rice

Continuing to the Rice Bowls and Staples menu, we tried the scrumptious Smoky Fried Rice ($16.80), which comes with Japanese short grain rice fried with smoked bacon, prawn, egg, and chilli oil. This dish is packed with savoury umami flavour that hits the spot, and the spice kicks in slowly.

French Toast W/ Vanilla Gelato

We rounded off the meal with this sinful dessert, French Toast W/ Vanilla Gelato ($16.90), served with slices of buttery french toast and a scoop of creamy Vanilla Gelato, topped with chocolate syrup on the side, and garnished with edible flowers, fresh strawberries, and blueberries. The light buttery flavour of the toast complemented the rich vanilla ice cream perfectly!

Final Thoughts

TAG Espresso's new outlet is undoubtedly worth a visit. We were thoroughly impressed by all the dishes and specialty coffees, particularly the Kaya Pandan Latte, Rose Coconut Latte, and Light Bites menu. Despite the slightly higher prices, I loved the ambience and could see myself returning here.
