AmiYaki Review: Japanese Homestyle Grill Offering Healthy, Quick And Affordable Set Meals

AmiYaki is a cozy Japanese Grill store located in Tanjong Pagar serving homestyle nutritional meals and dishes that are healthy. AmiYaki literally means “Net Grilling”- a popular style of Japanese cooking method where meat and fish are grilled on a wire net over high flame or red-hot coals.

Their store principle "Ichijyu Sansai" translates to "one soup, three sides". This combination ensures that a meal is both nourishing and well-balanced. For $13.80++ you can get a decent and nutritious meal with pickles, a side dish and soup, definitely worth its value.

Freshly Made In-house

Every dish in AmiYaki is made freshly in house with NO MSG and preservatives., right down to the sauces! The sauce and marinade will leave you feeling fully satisfied rather than parched after your meal.

This aligns with AmiYaki’s principle of serving healthy yet delicious meals. They aim to provide busy professionals with balanced, worry-free dining options.

Grilled Meat Sets

AmiYaki offers 2 sets, the Complete set and the Basic set. The Complete Set comes with 1 free rice refill, a choice of side, pickles and tonjiru soup while the Basic Set only has the rice refill, pickles and tonjiru soup. We recommend the Basic set for small eaters.

Starting with Amiyaki’s best seller, we had the Mix Beef and Pork Grilled Set ($15.30++). The grill flavour in every piece was perfectly executed. Paired together with the homemade sauce and rice, it was simply a delightful bite!

Next, we had the Grilled Hokke (mackerel) Set ($18.80). The flesh underneath the grilled fish skin remained tender and moist. The grilling process brings out the inherent richness of mackerel's flavour, making this a great option for a healthier choice.

Lastly, the Grilled Chicken Set ($14.80), was charred to perfection. The chicken was tender and retained its juiciness. The homemade sauce provides an added umami that pairs well with the succulent chicken thigh.

Rice and Sides

Another customisable item is the rice, choose from Japanese White Rice or the 16-Grain Rice. The 16-grain rice provides a richer nutritional profile and a more robust flavour which we recommend.

Amiyaki offers hot and cold side dishes options for you to choose from. Hot side dishes consisting of Braised Mushroom and Mapo Tofu while cold sides include the Potato Salad and Hijiki. All of which are made fresh, in-house with no MSG and preservatives.

The Mapo Tofu has a slight mala kick to it, making it super fragrant. It is savoury and rich without being too oily, making it one of our favourites!

Another interesting side is the Hijiki. Hijiki is a type of seaweed known for its high fiber and essential minerals such as calcium, iron and magnesium. A nutritious option for everyone!

AmiYaki also assures customers that they can enjoy different types of sides weekly.

Final Thoughts

AmiYaki keeps the natural flavour of each dish making it a healthier option among its competitors. Compared to buying ingredients and cooking at home yourself, AmiYaki offers an affordable, nutritious and no-frills option for you to enjoy homecooked meals. Not to mention the large variety of meats and sides, you can dine here daily without getting bored!
