Baristart Coffee Review: New Outlet At Wisma Atria Serving Signature Mainstays

When you find yourself in town musing about where to satisfy your café cravings, look no further! Baristart Coffee, a Hokkaido-based concept café, has opened its third outlet at Wisma Atria within OCBC Wisma Atria branch.

Step into this cozy 56-seater space boasting a tranquil and welcoming ambience with its white-themed decor adorned with lush greenery, making it a perfect go-to spot for those seeking a space to relax and unwind.

This new space offers the same signature mainstays as their other two outlets— Tras Street and Sentosa where you can immerse yourself in the authentic flavors of Hokkaido. Baristart Coffee prides itself on using exclusively full cream Hokkaido BIEI Jersey Milk to elevate the taste of its menu.

Hokkaido Tontoro

We started with their chef-recommended salad, Hokkaido Tontoro ($17.80), served with a generous amount of Hokkaido pork jowl, fresh garden salad, and finished with raspberry Pommery dressing and yuzu ponzu radish sauce. The harmonious combination of sweet and tangy notes creates a delightful choice to kickstart the meal.

Hokkaido Zangi

Next, we had the Hokkaido Zangi ($14.80), a dish showcasing Hokkaido-style fried chicken accompanied by a side of wasabi mayo. The chicken was expertly fried to golden brown perfection, and its harmonious pairing with the wasabi mayo dip struck an impeccable balance between the creamy mayo and the subtle kick of wasabi, delivering a pleasant flavour without overwhelming the palate.

Tonkatsu

Moving on to the next dish, we had the Tonkatsu ($18.80). It features a hearty Hokkaido pork loin, generously accompanied by mustard butter, tonkatsu sauce, shredded cabbage, and pickled cucumber, all sandwiched between two slices of fluffy white bread. The pork cutlet unquestionably delivers on both juiciness and tenderness, while the rich and savoury sauces elevate the flavour of this dish.

Wafu Pasta

And of course, we could not resist trying the crowd’s favourite, Wafu Pasta ($19.80), served with a medley of ingredients like prawns, bacon, and asparagus.

The spaghetti exuded a captivating aroma, seasoned perfectly with melted butter and Japanese dashi. Furthermore, it was well-cooked, offering a pleasingly firm and chewy texture. Our overall experience with this dish was highly enjoyable. The flavours melded well with the savoury ingredients and sauces, complementing the mild spiciness to perfection.

Obihiro Butadon

If you are not in the mood for some pasta, you can opt for their Obihiro Butadon ($19.80). It comes with grilled pork belly served atop a bed of fluffy Hokkaido nanatsuboshi rice and garnished with nori, red chili pepper, Japanese mustard greens, and their house-made sweet teriyaki chicken sauce. It is a comforting dish that delivers a lovely fusion of sweet and savoury tastes. Not forgetting that the pork belly is wonderfully tender.

Hokkaido Cream Puff

To end off, we had their best-selling Hokkaido Cream Puff ($7). It boasts a crispy outer puff, and with each bite, we were greeted by an explosion of rich and indulgent BIEI Jersey Milk custard cream.

Coffee

Lastly, not to be missed is their coffee menu crafted with Hokkaido BIEI Jersey Milk featuring their Baristart Latte ($7.70) adorned with bespoke café latte art and the aromatic Cafe Mocha ($8.50).

Final Thoughts

We will definitely recommend this place if you are looking to get a brunch fix while you are in town. Besides, if you are a fan of coffee, do not miss out on their coffee offerings as they serve up some of the finest brews.
