4 Ways To Get Your Mentaiko Fix During Heightened Measures

Like most Singaporeans, I love my mentaiko on top of anything. Anything Mentai? Yes, please!

For the curious, Mentaiko 明太子 is seasoned or brined cod roe or pollock egg, giving it that signature colour between coral and millennial pink. This savory addition to any dish creates an explosion of flavour that’s difficult to describe, it’s almost like a burst of happiness if you ask me. The result is an undeniably delicious taste that can be paired brilliantly with pretty much anything — fries, tamago, tofu, sushi, salmon, sandwich, nuggets, pasta.

With these heightened measures, I’ll be sharing 4 different ways where and how I’d like to satisfy my mentaiko fix, it’s a bit of a guilty pleasure I love to indulge in but trust, it’s worth it.

1. Mentaiko Udon (明太子うどん) From Torikin

Fun Fact: Do you know Mentaiko is originated from Fukuoka, Japan? One of Fukuoka’s most famous foods, mentaiko is marinated cod roe. The variety known as karashi mentaiko – or spicy mentaiko – is a speciality of Hakata. Torikin’s known for serving Kyushu cuisine which is a pretty rare find in Singapore.

Enjoy an authentic taste of Kyushu when you dine at Torikin — with their creamy mentaiko udon, give it a good stir with that pollock goodness — it’s one of my favorite comfort foods to indulge in!
