Another Studio Ghibli classic would be Ponyo. A magical girl from the sea who washes up on shore and is taken care of by her human companion, Sōsuke. He invites Ponyo into his home, showing her how to make his favourite meal, Ham Ramen!

This recipe requires no fancy ingredients or equipment, all you need is a pack of chicken instant noodles, a boiled egg, spring onions, and 2 thick slices of ham! I think that you could even substitute the ham for luncheon meat if that is all you have on hand.

3. Yamakake Udon — Demon Slayer

Source: Honey’s Anime

Demon Slayer is definitely one of the most popular anime series worldwide, and is very well loved by Singaporeans! The series follows Tanjiro Kamado and his companions, on their quest to defeat the demon king, as well as turn Nezuko Kamado back into a human.

In one of the earlier episodes, Tanjiro and Nezuko arrive in Tokyo for an assignment, they stop by an udon cart to rest. Tanjiro decides on Yamakake Udon, which looks very different from the udon that we know and love at first glance!

This udon dish features chilled udon noodles with raw grated Japanese mountain yam (Nagaimo or yamaimo yam). It is a traditional noodle dish that is often enjoyed during summer, or days with hot weather.

The mountain yam may be difficult to find in Singapore, but we’ve got you covered! Nagaimo or yamaimo yam can be easily found in Meidi-ya. Grated potato or taro might work well as an easy substitute!

4. Chicken Skewers — Wolf Children

Wolf Children depicts the life of a young college student, Hana, who falls in love with a werewolf. The unlikely pair raise a family, and Hana assumes the role of a stay-at-home-mum. She is often seen throughout the movie whipping up delicious meals for her family, and her chicken skewer recipe looks amazing!

Traditionally, chicken skewers are often cooked on a grill. However, I think a pan or hot plate would work just fine as a substitute. This recipe is easy and customisable, as you can swap out different vegetables on the skewer, making it a treat for everyone!

Psycho Pass follows Akane Tsunemori, a local cop in a cyberpunk futuristic Japan. After a challenging day at work, Akane is joined by her colleague while she is digging in to her beef curry udon.

Curry udon is a combination of the best of two popular Japanese dishes. The rich flavours of the curry complements the udon well, and the extra protein makes it a hearty meal.

The beef is a nice touch, as it also transforms the dish into a stew. The perfect accompaniment to your anime binge fest! If you would like to attempt this recipe yourself, check out the links below!
